Barbara Update 1/22/14  - Not Doing Well

After chemo Monday and through most of the day Tuesday Barbara did fairly well.  Only complaint she had was that of being extremely tired.

As Tuesday progressed, she was even more tired with a feeling of “spacey”.  And, by mid-afternoon after eating some yogurt her speech became slurred and her throat constricted.  At one point she became so concerned that she stuck out her tongue to see if it was straight.  It was. We believed she may have been reacting to the coolness of the yogurt (even though she had allowed it to become room temperature before eating it).  And, as of this afternoon she didn’t really remember completely just how she had felt the evening before.  However, after talking about it, she remembers falling asleep while watching the news and dozing off in the middle of flossing her teeth while lying on her bed.  She earlier had to make herself eat, then later had to will herself to get and brush her teeth, even though every fiber of her body wanted her to lie down and go to sleep.

When she awakened this morning, Wednesday, she complained of being very dizzy and weak.  We had an 11AM appointment to remove her infusion pump.  While I was waiting for her to come out, RN Katie came out and told me they were going to give her fluids for about an hour.  When I returned they had her scheduled for a CT scan of her head to see if she had a TIA, or what the heck was going on.  We will not get the reading on that scan until later today or possibly tomorrow.

As of the time I am writing this, I have just fixed her a grilled cheese sandwich and it went down O.K.  She feels about the same and is resting in a recliner in the living room.

It is a bright sunshiny day, albeit cold (45F).  That’s cold enough to cause her to be cautious when going to an exiting the car until she gets in a warm room because of the sensitivity to cold that has come back.

Tomorrow at 1230PM she will get Neulasta to build up her white blood cell count.  That caused an onslaught of dry gagging that went on the rest of the day and into the evening.  We’re hoping that will not occur tomorrow.

I would like to request that you intensify your focus with your thoughts and prayers for Barbara so that they may be beamed like a laser straight to God.  We’re struggling ….
